The Equip Series - Day 7 - What Jewish People Think About Yeshua/Jesus

The Equip Series Day 7 What Jewish People Think About Yeshuajesus

To effectively reach Jewish people with the gospel it is essential you understand what how Jewish people think and especially what they think about Yeshua.

Take these words of the apostle Paul into your heart:

For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a slave to all, that I might win the more. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews; to those under the law I became as one under the law — though not being myself under the law — that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law — not being without law toward God but under the law of Christ — that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. (1Corinthians 9:20-23)

To reach the Jews Paul become as a Jew, although he was already Jewish!  He in a sense got into their skin and thought like them! You must do the same. Let’s begin!

Jewish people have ZERO idea of who Yeshua really is.
Growing up, in Brooklyn NY, I thought Jesus Christ was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Mary Christ. And I am not the only Jew that did.

Most Jews do not know the term “Christ” means Messiah.

I thought it was his last name.

Every Jew somewhere in the back of his mind he knows Jesus was Jewish. But I most Jews think he changed his religion and became the founder of Christianity.

Christmas trees, boughs of holly, Santa Claus, Easter Bunnies in the Jewish mindset are all related to Jesus.  These traditions have become a part of western culture but it’s a culture that is foreign to Jews.

Every Jew has heard and somewhere in the back of his mind he knows Jesus was Jewish. But I most people think he changed his religion and became the founder of Christianity.

Many Jews in New York City would go to Rockefeller Center in December to see the giant Christmas tree and think, "What a beautiful Christian tradition!” But this is for “them” not for us. During the winter in the USA there is sort of a battle between Christmas and Chanukah. Christmas wins hands down. However the irony is Yeshua celebrated Chanukah, The Feast of Dedication, and not his birthday!

It is all terribly confusing.

Most of the famous paintings  of Jesus portray him as a blonde haired, blue eyed, Swedish hippy!

Once again, IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER Jewish people know less than nothing about THE REAL Yeshua because just about everything they know about him is not true!

Observant/Orthodox Jews, for the most part can be especially hostile toward Yeshua and those of us Jews who believe in him.

In a sense you might say they are the present day Pharisees.

Yet, we must remember that tens of thousands of observant Jews followed Yeshua in first century Israel !!!

Here it is in the Book of Acts.

And when they heard it, they glorified God. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed; they are all zealous for the law. (Acts 21:20)

It is important to remember that Paul the apostle was a religious Jew!

“I am a Jew, born at Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamali-el, educated according to the strict manner of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God as you all are this day. (Acts 22:3)

Look at how mightily God used him!

I believe there are “apostle Pauls” walking the streets of our cities today.

Most Jewish people are secular and liberal in their world view. As “The Equip” continues I trust the Lord will give me his wisdom to help you understand more and more how to become a Jew to the Jews and like Paul save some of them!
